An Optical Reflector for the CANGAROO-II Telescope
نویسنده
چکیده
We have been successful in developing light and durable mirrors made of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) laminates for the reflector of the new CANGAROO-II 7 m telescope. The reflector has a parabolic shape (F/1.1) with a 30 m effective area which consists of 60 small spherical mirrors of CFRP laminates. The orientation of each mirror can be remotely adjusted by stepping motors. After the first adjustment work, the reflector offers a point image of about 0.14 (FWHM) on the optic axis.

Preliminary results from CANGAROO-II, a 10 m imaging Cherenkov telescope, in Woomera, South Australia are presented. They include the confirmation of detections of TeV gamma-ray sources we have reported using a 3.8 m telescope, CANGAROO-I. Also the status of the construction of an array of four 10 m telescopes, called CANGAROO-III, is reported. The first telescope of the array was upgraded from...

In 2000 CANGAROO-II 7m telescope has been improved to a 10m telescope, and the CANGAROO-III project has been begun. The CANGAROO-III is a project to study celestial gamma rays above 0.1 TeV with an array of four 10m Imaging Air Cerenkov T elescopes (IACTs) in the southern hemisphere. Here we report on the status of CANGAROO-III project including the observations using the rst telescope

The CANGAROO-III telescope system for very-high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics consists of four 10 m atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes located near Woomera, South Australia. The construction of the fourth telescope was completed in summer 2003, and stereoscopic observations with a local trigger system started in March 2004. Here we report on the status of the system and preliminary results from s...
